Question: Should I add beer to leftover scalloped potato soup?

Answer #1:

I think we all know that you aren't working from a recipe. I have to say that the combination you are proposing sounds completely unappealing.

Scalloped potatoes in a soup?? Barf...
Adding lentils to it? That's good for soup, but combining it with scalloped potatoes isn't right.
I'd recommend add the beer to a soup with lentils and just eat the scalloped potatoes on the side.

Edit: Sorry Trent, it was the thought of adding beer and lentils to a creamy soup that put me off. Scalloped potato soup on it's own would probably be nice but as it would be a cream soup I just can't accept lentils in there as well. It seems like overkill.
When cooking with beer you shouldn't choose something with too much of a hops flavour or the whole thing can take on an awful bitter taste as it cooks. For that reason I tend to add beer closer to the end when I've cooked with it. I'd say not longer than 15 minutes.
